The paper's study object are 12 Pakistani students with intermediate level on Chinese.I n order to explore practical and useful Chinese diphthong teaching methods and suggestions,the study will synchronize the Chinese diphthong of second language learners with Chinese native speakers through phonetic experiment analysis to find out the regularity of the errors and look for the course of these errors.The paper consists of five parts:The first chapter is the introduction.It mainly explains the origin of the study,discusses the source of the topic and generally describes the current diphthong research situation at home and abroad.It also compares the phonetic system between Urdu and Chinese,clarifies the purpose and significance of this acoustic experimental study,the experimental method.The second chapter is experimental study of Chinese monophthong acquisition of the international students from Pakistan.The acoustic vowel graph,diagram,and formant parameter are compared and analyzed with the experimental phonetics method.It also compares and analyzes the Chinese students' Chinese monophthong pronunciation and monophthong acquisition of the international students from Pakistan..What's more,it predicates the mistake may occur in the learning process of Chinese diphthong based on the research result of the monophthong.The third chapter is experimental study of Chinese diphthong acquisition of the international students from Pakistan.The acoustic vowel graph,diagram,and formant parameter are compared and analyzed with the experimental phonetics method.What's more,it also compares and analyzes the Chinese students' Chinese diphthong pronunciation and diphthong acquisition of the international students from Pakistan.The fourth chapter is the error cause and teaching suggestions of Chinese diphthong acquisition for the international students from Pakistan.This chapter points out that main factors affecting Chinese vowel acquisition of Pakistan students are the negative transfer of mother tongue,target language generalization scheme for the Chinese phonetic Alphabet and the influence of the teaching material,etc.The sixth chapter is the conclusion.The acoustic experiment are summarized generally and the future research are pointed out.The experimental result shows that the overall error made by international students from Pakistan is that they cannot distinguish the main and the secondary vowel in a diphthong;thestarting position and ending position is inaccurate;the connection between the two vowels is awkward so the pronunciation is not natural.The acquisition result of ou[(?)u] is the worst among the prevowel compound diphthong with a higher tongue position behind the position pf the native speaker.The pronounce of the two back diphthongs,[i(?)] and [uA],is dilatory and has a redundant ending.They also mix the pronunciation of uo[uo] and uo[uo];Because they make much error on the pronunciation of the monophthong ü[y],most error appeared on the acquisition of diphthong üe[y(?)] which is the most difficult vowel for the international students from Pakistan.The teachers need to not only master the main regular but also correct their pronunciation respectively when facing different kind of errors.In this paper,The author also presents that it's feasible to assist the phonetic teaching with the method of experimental phonetics.
