An Action Research On“Continuation-task”Teaching In The Setting Of College Entrance Examination Reform

This paper reports a study on developing students' English writing ability through the teaching of "Continuation-task" in English in the form of action research.The reform of the new college entrance examination in Zhejiang Province and The promulgation of the English curriculum standard of Senior High School(the 2017 edition)enhances the demand for language competence(i.e.the ability to understand and express meaning).As an important part of expressive ability,writing ability not only refers to the students ' ability of using language knowledge,but also contains the students' thinking quality,learning ability and cultural character.These aspects are the concrete manifestation of the core accomplishment of English subject.English writing teaching is also one of the key points in senior middle school English teaching,and "Continuation-task" is an effective way to improve students' English writing ability.In this research,based on the changes of the new curriculum standard and the new college entrance Examination,the teachers train the students to improve their English writing ability,pay attention to the close combination of language input and output,emphasize the complete unification of reading and continuation,and carry out the teaching of "read and follow up" in three aspects such as text content,structure and language,exploring the implementation of "Continuation-task" teaching.This study uses a method of action research that combines qualitative and quantitative studies,in which subject consists of 120 students of senior 2 from H high school.A two-cycled action study was conducted during the two semester of the school year(2016-2017)to improve students' ability to write in English.The first round of teaching and practice focused on training students to improve the content and structure of the exercise,the second round of teaching and exercises focused on training students to optimize the language in their exercises.The corresponding data analysis before and after the study shows that in this study,the "Continuation-task" teaching is effective.With steps,stages and targeted teaching to better the content,structure and language of the students' writing,their English writing ability is improved.The innovation of this study lies in that it explores how “Continuation-task” teaching is implemented concretely,systematically and effectively in the high school classroom teaching.The research practice also proves that “Continuation-task” teaching is an effective way to improve students' English writing ability in high school.
