With more and more international communication,English plays a more and more important part in the world as a means of communication.Thus,we should not only pay attention to language input but also language output.Nowadays,English teachers often spend a lot of time explaining words,sentence patterns and teaching methodologies,while those words or expressions won't come into their mind quickly,so they can't do a good job in writing.It produces little effect consequently.In recent years,lexical chunks and the lexical approach have been brought into focus by linguists and English teachers at home and abroad.Based on the theory of Lexical chunks and Second Language Acquisition combined with Krashen's Hypothesis,Interlanguage Theory and Schema Theory,the experiment is designed to explore whether the application of the Lexical Chunk Approach to our writing teaching in normal college is practical,whether it can improve our normal college students' language competence and awareness of lexical chunks.I chose Class one and Class two of our Art15 as subjects,who have been involved in the continuous course for five years.Through questionnaire,interview and writing tests,we try to find their difficulties in language acquisition.The study indicates the subjects benefit a lot.It shows that they used to be afraid to do English writing,and 70% of them were not aware of chunks or the lexical chunk approach.Nowadays,only 7% of them are not fully aware of lexical chunks or the lexical approach.Almost all of them do a better job than those in the traditional classroom teaching atmosphere in every writing respect.Now they can express themselves more fluently,more accurately and more quickly.They are familiar with the lexical approach and use lexical chunks more often.Also,their compositions are usually better organized.It is clear that their writing levels have improved a lot.Although the study is a bit limited,it can offer some guidelines.For example,we teachers should pay more attention to students' awareness of lexical chunks and the way of lexical chunks' input,offer more chances to practise and continue to help them develop the habit of learning and using lexical chunks.All in all,it is expected that the findings of the study can provide a practical guidance for English writing teaching in normal colleges and will be helpful to both the teachers and English learners.
