Coping With Political And Diplomatic Speeches In Consecutive Interpretation

Successful political diplomacy is the result of the joint efforts of spokespersons and interpreters,and requires a tacit agreement between the two.Political diplomacy is different from other types of interpretations.Its subject is serious,words are sensitive and sharp,content is policy-oriented,and therefore vague expression is often used.The material used in this article is the live debate of the 2017 British Parliamentarians on the issue of Brexit.During the writing of this thesis,the Brexit event continued,making itself very realistic and analytical.The material covers a wide range of fields including health care,job employment,nuclear industry and so on.The problems that appeared in the process of interpretation can be divided into three categories: redundant information,lack of information,and political expression.Based on the principle of cooperation,this paper explores strategies to improve the quality of political and diplomatic interpretation,including subtractive translation,interpretation,additional translation,vague expression and so on.The author analyzes and solves problems from the perspective of a professional interpretation master,and hopes to lay the foundation for future practices.
