Ancient China is one of the cradles of world civilization.The long history and profound cultural deposits are the great treasures left by our ancestors.Combining homophonic,symbolic and other methods,our ancients created the bird-and-flower painting with auspicious meanings,which was also the most beautiful and brilliant part of the treasure.This paper consisted of five chapters,and it summarized the conceptions of homophonic auspicious words,studied and analyzed the rise and development of this theme.Then,this paper classified the homophonic auspicious words in the bird-and-flower painting by the plant and animal.Finally,the combination of different theme was conducted an implication analysis.Through the methods of image analysis,literature analysis and comparative study,this paper researched and explained the origin and characteristics of homophonic auspicious words,as well as its specific usage in the bird-and-flower painting,so as to display the national culture features in Chinese bird-and-flower painting.The auspicious meaning and lovemaking function in the bird-and-flower painting were perfected through gradual growth and selection during long development of Chinese culture,and it was the outcome of historical accumulation.The research results show that in the period of Ming and Qing Dynasties to the disintegration of feudal society,and the confluence period of feudalism and capitalism,the function of auspicious meaning in Chinese bird-and-flower painting gradually developed into maturity.The combination of Chinese bird-and-flower painting and homophonic auspicious words was a unique way of artistic expression,which means "luck",and its distinctive feature was that it symbolized moral contents,which included the wide and popular auspicious concept.The first chapter of this paper studied the background,purpose and significance of this research,and summarized the current research status of homophonic auspicious words in Chinese bird-and-flower painting at home and abroad.In the second chapter,the concept of homophonic auspicious theme was defined,and this chapter studied the rise and development of the homophonic auspicious words theme.The third chapter summarized the content of the homophonic auspicious words theme,and divided it into two aspects,the theme of plants and animals.The fourth chapter analyzed and summarized artistic features of homophonic auspicious words theme painting in the flower-and-bird painting,and compared the flower-and-bird painting with literati paintings by using comparative analysis method.This chapter elaborated that the most distinctive feature of homophonic auspicious words theme lied in the character of “auspicious”,as the content was often symbolized by the auspicious symbol commonly understood by the Chinese people.In the fifth chapter,it mainly explained the application of the auspicious connotation in my personal painting.My graduation project was based on the "New Year" of the Tujia ethnic group in Enshi,depicting the living conditions of the Tujia people and their expectation for an auspicious new year.On the basis of applying the auspicious meaning,I have added the material of Tujia folk customs to demonstrate the reunited and happy life of Tujia people during the Chinese New Year.The last chapter gives a summary to the content of the subject.
