In recent years,the cultivation of critical thinking ability has aroused a heated discussion in the field of education.In the English Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High School(2017 edition),it points out that critical thinking ability is one of the necessary abilities for senior school students,and it is also one of the important thinking traits for students to acquire lifelong learning ability.Therefore,in order to know the current situation of critical thinking disposition of senior school students,to verify whether the process approach to writing teaching could improve critical thinking skills of students,and to explore the correlation between critical thinking ability and English writing competence,the author investigated 63 students who come from a senior school of G city as the experimental subjects.To collect date by using questionnaire investigation,interview and testing,this study analyzed the result of the students' critical thinking disposition,the cultivation of students' critical thinking skills in process approach to writing teaching,and whether there is a significant correlation between students' critical thinking ability and their English writing competence.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)In the pretest,the critical thinking disposition of students is negative,but the critical thinking disposition of students is positive in the posttest.(2)Process approach to writing teaching could improve students' critical thinking skills.(3)According to the Pearson Correlation,there is a significant correlation between the critical thinking ability of senior school students and students' English writing competence.In addition,the interview also revealed that some teachers pay little attention to the cultivation of students' critical thinking ability,but students have a strong desire to cultivate their critical thinking ability.This study provides some enlightenment for English writing teaching in senior school,and it is also hoped that this paper can provide some reference value for subsequent researchers.
