Gertrude Bell is a British woman living at the turn of the 19 th and 20 th centuries.Her life revolved around legends and secrets.She was born in a high-ranking family in Victorian England.She received the best education in an era of relative inequality between men and women.She broke the British society's concept of women's husband and son,and devoted herself to the family.She traveled alone to the vast Middle East to explore here.She has made remarkable achievements in archaeology.She also played an important role in carving up the Middle East after World War I.She created the foundation of Iraqi National Archaeology and preserved a rich cultural heritage for Iraq.It is difficult to sum up Bell's life as an exact person.She left an indelible mark on history at different stages of her life.Compared with Gertrude Bell's political achievements,her archaeological achievements are more remarkable.Bell's archaeological career is the most important experience in her life.Her practice in the political field and her views on the history and reality of the Middle East are also derived from her archaeological experience.Archaeological career has shaped the most romantic aspect of Gertrude Bell's personality.Bell has always treated history and reality with this unique romantic emotion,and continued this romantic style in political practice.This paper takes Gertrude Bell's life as a clue,using her rich personal archives resources and her publicly published books and papers,focusing on Bell's archaeological career.To explore how she embarked on the path of archaeology,what achievements she made in the field of archaeology,and how her archaeological career profoundly influenced her emotional and political practice.
