This project is concerned with the English-Chinese translation of China in the Middle East and China's Soft Power in the Middle East(excerpt),and these two articles are written by Jon B Alterman.The former is extracted from his statement on the United States-China Economic and Security Review Commission,and the latter originates from Chapter five of the report: Chinese Soft Power and Its Implications for the United States.The writer of the mentioned articles is deemed a reputable expert in the study of the Middle East,thoroughly understanding the relationship of China,US and the region.Despite some prejudices in his articles,his study on the Middle East can be critically reference to investigate China in the Middle East.Followed theory of communicative translation proposed by Peter Newmark,this project task is completed.The translation practice is also analyzed,inclusive of five parts.The first part describes the translation project,involving its origin and significance,requirement and layout of the report as well;the second part is concerned to how the translation task is prepared and illustrated,involving the introduction to the source text author,analysis of source texts,reference to parallel texts and other relevant information,and quality monitoring;the third part is about the theory of communicative translation;the fourth part,the most critical content here,analyzes the rationality of applying communicative translation in this translation practice,and the translation skills in terms of lexical expressions,sentences and the text as well;the fifth part concludes the translation project.The E-C translation skill and experience of the author was improvedthrough this translation practice.Besides,translation is more clearly known not as a simple language conversion,from which the author learned as considerable knowledge as she can to prepare for the future translation practices.
