In the history of early Chinese thought,"smell" appeared widely in all levels of ideology and culture. As a noun,"smell" has a rich meaning in the process of expressing the odor attribute of things, from the "smell" of things to the "smell" of sacrifices,to the "smell" of virtue, its meaning is constantly expanding and extending.People discriminate things based on the "smell" as it is the basic attributes of objects, and get contact with gods through the "smell" of sacrifices, use "smell" to improve morality and so on,linking "smell" with the nature of human and things, all of these show the love and concern of early Chinese thought for "smell".Taking "smell" as a way to enter the early Chinese thought and explore its rich meaning,in order to clarify the rich meaning of early Chinese thought. It also reveals the richness and fullness of the ideological world composed of "smell" and "flavor","color" and "sound".In terms of methodology, when “smell” is understood as the basic attribute of the object and is given a good value, the sense of smell is used as the basic channel for understanding people, things and spirit.Different from the attention of the external form and objectivity of the object, the subject and the object blend in the sense of smell. The Chinese philosophical methodology developed on this basis also has obvious non-objective nature.
