This paper focuses on the intrinsic homoorganicity of the love ideal conveyed by the historian of ideas Irving Singer's and the English poet John Donne's poem "The Canonization",especially the similarity between Singer's view of love and the traditional platonic, neoplatonic Eros and the Christian Agape tradition and his critical inheritance of them. This article tries to analyze Singer's thinking of the nature of love, including the love theory covering the conflict between the spirit and soul, the relationship between the self and the other, the individual fate and the community order, with the help of the aesthetic function of John Donne's poetry and their complex cultural connotations. The author sums up Singer's opinion, trying to grasp his love ideal, presenting his attempt to secularize John Donne's ideal of "self-canonization" with love of both sexes, and tries to sort out the connection between the love research paradigm proposed by Singer and the main paradigm of traditional love research "Human love-Divine Love","Agape-Eros",and put forward the unique value and scope of the application of the paradigm of Singer's "Bestowing-Valuing".
