The Study On Christian Agape

The Agape value throughout the history of western ideology has been influenced by the Greek thought of philosophy and humanity and Christian religious beliefs.Eros was a core category even back in philosophy system of ancient Greek.So to speak,Agape value is an undoubtedly essential part both in ideological system of philosophy and of theology.Christianity is a religion about Agape and its Agape value has been guiding the believers' ethical words and deeds since the day of formation,and even dominated the whole medieval ideas since then.The special tension is permanently sustained between the understanding of Agape of Christianity and of ordinary people: sometimes they are apart,and sometimes they are harmonious.The complicated relation between them is also reflected in the personal contradiction.When Christian preachers try to integrate their understanding of Agape into the spiritual achievements of the whole human race,they must assure the uniqueness of its own Agape value.When it comes to the Agape value of Christianity,the tension between Eros and Agape is unavoidable.It has also become the important paradigm of deep study of questions regarding Agape value,which is widely adopted by the Christian theology world for study and thorough discussions of questions regarding Agape value.Christianity places Agape in the highest position against other values,which is incompatible with the ancient western secular spirit.In the development of Christianity,although the Agape value remains the highest value,the Agape value system is shaped by different historical backgrounds.Nevertheless,Agape value still has strong position in the Christian theoretical system.In this paper,the separation and combination of Eros and Agape are used as clues to make clear the evolution of Agape in four important periods of Christianity and compare the separation and combination of Eros-Agape of the present age.Christianity Agape value,as the pillar of Christianity,shows a great vitality and is worth studying thoroughly and apprehending its ideological essence,also exposes us to the western religion and culture.In consideration of increasingly complex society structure and the fast-paced life which causes mental crisis frequently,the study of Christian Agape value may provide some enlightenment for the construction of contemporary ethics.
