A Report On Translation Of Chapter 7(excerpt) In Energy Economics:Markets,history And Policy

Natural gas is one of the most important clean energies around the world.However,China still falls behind the western developed countries in production and exploration of natural gas.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the advanced technology of the West,learn from the foreign experience and improve the translation quality of the sci-tech texts for the employees of petroleum industry in China.Taking the foreign textbook Energy Economics: Markets,History and Policy as the source text,the translator puts chapter 7 into Chinese.Under the theoretical framework of functionality plus loyalty,this paper is to explore the translation skills of petroleum sci-tech text from three perspectives: terminology,passive voice and long and complicated sentences,deepening the understanding of translation theory.In the meantime,through this translation practice,the translator not only further understands the linguistic features of petroleum English,but also expands the background knowledge of petroleum industry,which lays the foundation of participating in the translation of petroleum English.In addition,it is hoped that this translation practice report can provide some reference for the domestic practitioners of petroleum industry to learn more about the latest development of natural gas in the west.The report consists of four parts.The first part is task description,introducing the background and significance of translation.In the meantime,it analyzes the linguistic features of the source text and puts forward to some possible problems and solutions in this translation practice.The second part is translation process description,introducing pre-translation preparation,translation theory and strategy applied in this report.The third part is case analysis,discussing some translation methods and skills from three perspectives: terminology,passive voice and long and complicated sentences.The fourth part is a conclusion,explaining experience and lessons gained from this practice and proposing some problems to be solved and making reflection on the translation practice.
