Over the past decades, the increasing demand for energy has resulted in corresponding growth and expansion in the refining and processing of crude petroleum and many other chemical industries. In recent years, more and more attention is paid to existing pollution control technology and approaches for minimizing the pollution. The protection and remediation of atmosphere, water and soil is listed as one of the six key governmental assignments in the 13~thh Five-Year Plan.In May 2016,the State Council issued The Prevention and Control of Soil Pollution Action Plan,(also known as10-Chapter Soil Pollution Action Plan),which is regarded as the milestone of domestic soil protection and remediation.Comparing with many foreign countries, domestic technology is backward and under-developed in this field. This thesis is based on the translation of Chapter Three of Pollution Control in Oil,Gas and Chemical Plants by Alireza Bahadori. The petrochemical and geological knowledge is involved in the origin EST text. The translator finishes the task under the guidance of the thematic progressions. The report consists of four chapters, namely, task description, translation process, case analysis and conclusion.Chapter One introduces the context information, significance and purpose of the task.Chapter Two presents the translation process in respect of translation preparations, choice for thematic progression patterns, source text analysis and translating and reviewing.Chapter Three elaborates the author's application of different translation strategies to achieve the translation equivalence at lexical, syntactical, and discourse levels. Finally,in Chapter Four, the author reviews the whole translation process and shares the experience.
