It is critical to remind people of showing concern for environmental protection by reading relevant sci-tech texts. However, many Chinese can not read English. Therefore, the translation of environmental protection sci-tech text is of considerable importance. For a long time, the majority of our translation studies have aimed at literary translation. But the relevant theories derived from literary translation cannot be applied to the translation of sci-tech text, due to the wide differences between the two texts. By translating Air Pollution and Health Effects (Chapters 13-14), the translator aims to discuss some translation methods and strategies which are applicable to sci-tech translation. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part is a 17,000-word translation of the selected English original text. The material is selected from Air Pollution and Health Effects (Chapters 13-14). The second part, which consists of four chapters, is the translator's reflection on the translation practice. The first chapter introduces the background of the translation project, theoretical guidance and significance. The second chapter involves the introduction of the source text, the analysis of the text's linguistic styles and structural features. The third part concludes some key and difficult points and techniques used in the process of translation. Stresses are placed on the translation of terminology and passive sentences. When doing the translation, the translator uses such translation techniques as literal translation, liberal translation, conversion and division on the basis of New Mark's communicative translation theory. The fourth part sums up the implication, experience and unsolved problems.Through this translation practice, the translator has acquainted himself with the language features and translation strategies of environmental-protection sci-tech text, which will certainly lay a solid foundation for the translation of sci-tech texts in the future.
