Classroom is the main place for Chinese students to learn English.Classroom environment affects students' classroom behaviors,and students' classroom behaviors undoubtedly have direct or indirect influence on their learning effect.The study of the relationship between English classroom environment and students' classroom behaviors has positive significance for optimizing English classroom environment and improving teaching effect.After researching the relevant studies at home and abroad,the author adopts questionnaires and interviews to conduct this study on the strength of Lewin's Field Theory and Moos' Human Environment Theory.Five hundred and seventy-two students from Nanning NO.1 Senior High School(Demonstrative Senior High School)and Nanning NO.28 Senior High School(Ordinary Senior High School)join this investigation.The English classroom environment questionnaire includes five aspects: teacher support,student cohesiveness,order and discipline,competition,learning pressure.And the students' classroom behaviors questionnaire contains seven aspects: verbal participation,learning orientation,dominating others,support-seeking,self-disclosure,self-assurance,sociability.The research attempts to find out the general situation of the English classroom environment and students' classroom behaviors,the difference between English classroom environment and students classroom behaviors in different types of senior high schools,and then to explore their relationship.The research demonstrates that:(1)Senior high school students' perception of the English classroom environment is at a moderate level,and there is still room for improvement.The students have a higher perception of the teacher support among the five dimensions,it can be safely said that most English teachers in senior high school are approachable and understandable.Students' perception of the student cohesiveness,competition and learning pressure is not so strong,which shows that students are in a relatively easy and relaxing learning atmosphere,be that as it may,the atmosphere of mutual help is not so strong.Most students think that their English class is well ordered.(2)High school students' classroom behaviors in English class is merely adequate,and there is still room for improvement.The students have a lower enthusiasm in verbal participation in English class,simultaneously,their self-disclosure and self-assurance are at a mid-low level,it can be safely said that the majority of senior high school students are not so active in answering questions and expressing themselves in English class.In terms of learning orientation,support-seeking and sociability,the majority of students show concerns for English learning,they can ask teachers and classmates for help when they encounter problems and most of them can be friendly.In dominating others,most students do not have a strong desire to put their authority over teachers and classmates.(3)The perception of English classroom environment in demonstrative senior high school students is higher than that of ordinary senior high school students,and students' classroom behaviors in demonstrative senior high school is more active than that in ordinary senior high school.(4)There is a weak correlation between English classroom environment and students' classroom behaviors.According to the results of the study,the author gives suggestions for students and teachers based on the correlations between English classroom environment and students' classroom behaviors,the suggestions are as follows:(1)Students should learn how to get along well with their classmates,they should learn to deal with the relationship between competition and friendship,and learn to release pressure.Students should try to focus on the class and often interact with the teacher.For demonstrative senior high school students,they should learn to arrange the study time properly and learn to deal with the pressure.For ordinary senior high school students,they are supposed to observe discipline in class.Students should change their negative attitude towards English learning.(2)Teachers should try their best to make themselves approachable,to respect all kinds of students,and try to get closer to the students.Teachers should design more group activities and encourage students to express themselves boldly in English.For demonstrative senior high school teachers,advice and help should be provided to students on how to arrange their study time reasonably and how to cope with stress.For ordinary senior high school teachers,they should constantly improve their professionalism,they are supposed to maintain good classroom discipline,to provide advice and help to students on how to arrange their study time and deal with stress reasonably.Teachers should constantly improve themselves and use appropriate teaching strategies.The author also finds out the limitations in order to provide the future researches with helpful advice.
