In the current context of social globalization and informatization, the international communities have become more closely connected in the field of science and technology,so the importance of scientific translation is self-evident.Electrical engineering is a branch of science and technology, and its application involves all stages of the current industrial system. Therefore, the translation of foreign excellent research literature in the field of electrical engineering and automation is of great significance to the development of relevant fields in China;at the same time it also can strengthen the communication of science and technology at home and abroad. The selected text for this translation practice report is from "Stirling Engines for low-temperature solar-thermal Electric Power Generation" by Artin,PhD of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences in University of California at Berkeley. From the lexical point of view,a large number of professional terms and acronyms are used in the selected original text.In terms of sentences, there are many complicated and long sentences and sentences with passive voice in the text.In the aspect of discourse,a large number of conjunctions are used to maintain the cohesion and coherence of the text This thesis discusses the application of the relevance theory into the translation of scientific and technological texts in terms of lexicon, sentence and discourse. When the relevance theory is applied to the translation of the original text, the translator must firstly infer the original author's intentions, secondly, give full consideration to the reader's cognitive context, and finally flexibly adopt various translation methods such as separation, integration, addition, deletion, conversion of part of speech and so on.Every effort should be made to realize the optimal relevance between the source text and the target text. From the research analysis, this paper finds that relevance theory has a strong guiding effect on the translation of scientific English.English for science and technology is a kind of information-based text, and there is strong logicality between each part of the text. From the perspective of relevance theory, translation is a double ostensive-inferential cognitive process. In this process, accurate translation can only be achieved if the principle of relevance is followed.Through the accurate comprehension of the original author's writing intention,as well as the understanding of the target reader's cognitive context and reading purpose, the translator can use his knowledge to get the translation version that can optimize the communicative effect, achieve the optimal relevance between the target text and the source text in terms of lexicon, sentence and discourse, and improve the accuracy and readability of the translation.
