The Study Of The Subjective Maximum Quantity Construction In Modern Chinese

The subjective Maximum quantity construction in modern Chinese has always been receiving lots of attention,making it one of the key research objects in the academic circle.Although a lot of research has already been done on this construction,most of them are case studies in nature,which basically considered a specific construction as the research object in order to explore its semantic expression and other issues.Only a few systematic research has been done on the subjective Maximum quantity construction as a whole.In light of this background,this study strive to comprehensively collect the expressions of subjective Maximum quantity construction,based on which a classified study was conducted to inspect their similarities and differences and offer the proposal of new ideas for the systematic research of subjective Maximum quantity.This thesis consisted of five chapters.Chapter One is the Introduction,which mainly introduces the research object,content,significance,methodology,and the source of corpus.Achievements of predecessors were reviewed,including extreme complement of degree,the systematicness of the Maximum quantity construction,and the specific case studies.In Chapter Two,three standards of classification are set,which are lexical standard,temporal standard,and survey on language intuition.All the collected structures were classified into the traditional and new ones.In Chapter Three,the constructions are classified from the point of structure into four types: complements,modifier-heads,comparatives and complex structure.Contrast is made between the traditional and new constructions of each type.Moreover,the way the Maximum quantity construction expresses its Maximum quantity was explored and their marks of Maximum quantity were analyzed.In Chapter Four,the semantics of subjective Maximum quantity construction are investigated in modern Chinese.Firstly,it is analyzed from two dimensions,one is to see whether the construction represents absolute or relative Maximum quantity,the other is to see whether the construction represents maximum or minimum.Secondly,it examines whetherthere are two types in both traditional and new constructions,and how they express absolute and relative,maximal and minimal respectively.In Chapter Five,the pragmatic features of the subjective Maximum quantity construction in modern Chinese was studied from four aspects,which are style,emotion,direct expression and indirect expression,and scope of application.The last is the Conclusion.The research circumstances of subjective Maximum quantity construction in modern Chinese was summarized,and certain inadequacies in this thesis were pointed out.
