By comparison,the large-scale and high-frequency harassment by Japanese pirates in Jiajing period,the invasion of Japanese pirates in Wanli period was relatively eased,but it did not stop.Intermittent harassment made the Ming court have to continue to take a series of defensive measures.Wang Zaijin completed his book named "Haifangzuanyao" based on the special situation of the coastal areas with little fluctuation and occasional disturbances during Wanli period.It covers a wide range of content.The book tells the defense methods of different regions,explores defense strategies from a strategic perspective,discusses the regulations for defending Japanese pirates from a legal perspective,and summarizes thedefense of Japanese pirates in a systematic and comprehensive way."Haifangzuanyao" embodies Wang Zaijin's thought of coastal defense,which can be roughly divided into two categories: the thought of coastal defense construction and the thought of coastal defense strategy.Wang Zaijin's thought of coastal defense construction can be reflected in his records,including the selection of soldiers,training of soldiers,the formulation of the camp regulation law,the reserve of military salaries,the construction and use of weapons,and the improvement of infrastructure.The strategic thought of coastal defense mainly lies in his usual handling of coastal issues.His strategy of regional defense can reflect his strategic thinking of key defense,regional alliance and layer-by-layer defense.In dealing with disputes between local fishermen and foreign fishermen as well as disputes among local fishermen,he has shown his strategic thinking of strict requirements on foreign fishermen and local fishermen.What's more,he proposed targeted defense measures against the situation in China's waters,reflecting his awareness of preventing the sea and risks.Limited by the factors of that times,Wang Zaijin's thought of coastal defense has many shortcomings.However,it cannotbe denied from the current rigorous and meticulous perspective.Wang Zaijin's thought of coastal defense still has many positive meanings and played an important role in defending Japanese pirates in the Ming Dynasty.
