The Application Of Linear Narrative Structure In Documentary

In the speech of the opening ceremony of the 2017 Documentary Image Week in Beijing,Gao Changli,Director of the Propaganda Department of the State Administration of Press,Publication,Radio,Film and Television,proposed that the development of Chinese documentary films entered a golden age.In the golden age,in order to meet the needs of the market and the audience,the documentary narrative strategy is more diversified,especially in the context of“story narrative”,a large number of excellent documentary works have emerged.As the most classic narrative strategy,linear narrative has been widely used in documentary creation,although it is still playing an irreplaceable role in the diversification of documentary narrative.Based on the background of documentary development and entering the golden age,this paper summarizes the content,shooting and production of the film of the author's graduation work "The Last Kazakh Camel",from the narrative of the development of the documentary "story" in the current era.Beginning with style analysis,deconstruct the linear narrative in the documentary narrative strategy,and explore the value of documentary narrative,especially the linear narrative structure in the documentary.The article grasps the current status of documentary narratives from a macro perspective,and through the narrative analysis of the graduation work "The Last Kazakh Camel Man",combined with the excellent documentary works produced in the past two years such as "China in the Country" and "This Is Life",in the documentary The characteristics of the linear narrative structure are summed up,which points out the important role of the linear narrative structure under the diversification of narrative style.An excellent documentary should be completed by the creators and the audience.On the basis of maintaining the documentary's "recording real life" characteristics,starting from the audience's standard,combining the film's shooting and production methods,and the audience's acceptance of the film.Mentality analysis,using narrative and narrative psychology related theories,analyzes the characteristics and importance of linear narrative from the perspective of documentary storytelling,and combines the documentary produced by myself to briefly explain the misunderstanding of linear narrative,linear narrative Common misunderstandings and the author's experience in the filming process are summarized.
