Previous research on emotion mainly relies on basic emotions,whereas the exploration of self-conscious emotions is of recent interest,especially the gender stereotypes of this special class of emotions.The current study aims to explore the explicit and implicit gender stereotypes of self-conscious emotions through three different studies.Study one using Personal Beliefs Questionnaire of Self-Conscious Emotions to explore the explicit gender stereotypes of self-conscious emotions;Using FaceGen software,study two verified the explicit gender stereotypes of self-conscious emotions through gender-neutral face expression picture;Finally,study three examines the implicit gender stereotypes of self-conscious emotions through the implicit association test.Results showed that the explicit gender stereotypes existed in all four emotions studied,nevertheless,the implicit gender stereotypes of self-conscious emotions were not statistically significant.Further analysis revealed that male and female participants hold opposite implicit gender stereotypes which neutralize the effect of implicit gender stereotypes,of which male participants' implicit gender stereotypes are consistent with their explicit gender stereotypes,whereas female participants hold an implicit gender stereotypes that are contrary to their explicit gender stereotypes.The current study confirmed that the implicit gender stereotypes are not always consistent with the explicit gender stereotypes,which enhances the understandings on self-conscious emotions.
