Reading is an important part of junior middle school English learning; It has been occupying a key position in junior high school English teaching.English reading teaching in junior high school is the main way for junior high school students to master English knowledge, expand their English vocabulary, obtain English information, and promote their comprehensive ability in English. At the same time, reading has a direct impact on other three English skills: listening, speaking and writing, therefore,it is one of the main tasks of middle school English teaching to cultivate the reading ability of junior middle school students. In addition, the Compulsory English Curriculum Standards(2011 edition)clearly state that students' English reading ability should be paid attention to and cultivated to achieve the purpose of English teaching in compulsory education. However, there are still some problems in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools, such as rural Mongolian teaching junior high school.Teachers pay too much attention to the indoctrination of language knowledge but ignore the infiltration and cultivation of reading strategies, resulting in most Mongolian junior high school students have low interest in English reading and poorreading ability. Therefore,it is necessary to train rural Mongolian junior high school students in English reading strategies. The study aims to help Mongolian students master certain English reading strategies so as to improve their English reading level and their enthusiasm for English learning. This research is an experimental teaching study, and the following three research questions are proposed:1)Can the students' reading achievements be improved through the training of reading strategies?2)Can the students' awareness of using reading strategy be improved through the reading strategy training?3)Can the students' interest in English reading be increased through the reading strategy training? This experiment research lasted 16 weeks. The author studied 70 students from two parallel classes of grade eight in Badaerhu Central School in Zhalaiteqi Xinganmeng, one class was randomly selected as the experimental class(35 students)and the other as the control class(35students).Then English reading strategies were trained in the experimental class, while the control class still adopted the traditional reading teaching methods. The experimental data were collected by means of pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview. In the process of research, the author used software SPSS22.0 and Excel to make statistics and analysis on the collected data and obtained the research results. The following main conclusions in thisstudy were drawn:(1)The English reading achievement of the students in the experimental class has been obviously improved, and the reading level is significantly higher than that of control class. The average score of English post test of the experimental class was 7.62 points higher than that of the pretest.Meanwhile, the average reading score of the experimental class was3.42 points higher than that of the control class. The study shows that reading strategy training is helpful to improve the reading performance of Mongolian teaching junior high school students in rural areas.(2)Through the comparative study and analysis of the questionnaire data before and after the experiment,it was found that students are more likely to use the reading strategies they have been trained in the process of English reading, indicating that their awareness of the use of reading strategies has also enhanced.(3)According to the interview results of the students,it can be seen that reading strategy training is conducive to improving the interest and self-confidence of rural Mongolian junior high school students in English reading.
