With the development of basic education curriculum reform in China,cultivating students' autonomous learning ability and innovation ability has become the focus of the new curriculum reform.As the main body of teaching activities,teachers have no doubt about their influence on students' development.Therefore,people's demands for improving the quality of education gradually turn to the development of teachers' own profession.At the same time,with the globalization of the world economy and the requirements of ones own development,English education has become more and more important.And the role of the mentor of the key period of students' physical and mental development,English teachers in junior high school has been paid more and more attention to.How to promote the professional development of English teachers in junior high school has become a common concern in education all over the world.An ancient saying goes,two heads are always better than one.Teachers' peer coaching is based on this simple idea,Piaget's constructivism learning theory as well as lifelong learning theory to promote professional development through mutual communication coaching and learning among teachers.It has been proved that peer coaching is an important way to promote teachers' professionaldevelopment.However,there are very few researches on junior high school English teachers.Based on the above reasons,this study takes the NO.3 Middle School in Hohhot as an example to find out the current implementation of peer coaching among English teachers in junior high school by means of questionnaires and interviews,and analyze the existing problems and explore the effective ways to promote the professional development of English teachers in junior high school.The research questions in this thesis are as follows:(1)What is the current implementation of peer coaching among junior high English teachers?(2)What is the influence of peer coaching on the professional development of junior high English teachers?This study takes the English teachers from five campuses of Hohhot No.3 Middle School as the research subjects,and adopts the form of questionnaire and interview to collect date.Firstly,the author distributed questionnaires to 90 junior high school English teachers by taking the advantage of group training,then 70 valid samples are collected and five teachers were interviewed.The collected data are analyzed by description analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis with SPSS 22.0 software.Besides,the study combines quantitative and qualitative research to deal with the the date of questionnaire and interview,and draws the following conclusions:(1)From the overall peer coaching as well as its four dimensions,the implementation of peer coaching among junior high school English teachers is in the middle and upper level,among which the peer coaching is the best,followed by peer coaching consciousness.And the peer coaching guarantee and the peer coaching skill are slightly inadequate.On the other hand,from the four perspectives of gender,the length of teaching,professional title and educational background of the basic information of teachers,although the implementation of peer coaching among teachers is at a higher level,it is different from each other.Among them,female teachers,teachers with more than 21 years' teaching length,teachers with senior professional titles and teachers with College Diploma are the best at implementing peer coaching.(2)Peer coaching has a significant relationship with junior high English teachers' professional development,and peer coaching has an important influence on teachers' professional development.Among them,peer coaching consciousness and peer coaching behavior have the greatest influence on professional concept,professional knowledge and professional competence.Secondly,peer coaching guarantee also has significant influence on professional affection.The results of this study provide some suggestions for junior high school English teachers and relevant education departments,point out the shortcomings and limitations of the study,and provide some referencesuggestions for further study in the future.
