As a new type of teaching resources,micro-lesson has been widely used in English teaching.College students have a sure English learning foundation and have more free time and self-control ability relatively,therefore,English micro-lesson should be more right and efficient for college and university students.Based on Chen Bingbing's(2010)theoretical framework individual needs analysis model,this paper adopts a questionnaire to know the motivation,skill,process and resource needs of non-English majors about English micro-lesson resources.The questionnaire has high reliability and validity after tested.The author selected three non-English major undergraduates from South China Normal University,Central South University for Nationalities and Guangxi Normal University as the subjects of the survey,involving three majors: Literature & History,Science & Technology,and Art & Sports.Secondly,five students and three college English teachers were interviewed.This thesis aims to answer two questions:(1)What is the overall need for non-English major undergraduates for English micro-lesson resources?(2)According to gender,major,grade and English proficiency,what are the individual differences in the needs of non-English major undergraduates for college English micro-lesson? Through the analysis and discussion of the survey results,the conclusions are draw:(1)Non-English major undergraduates have a high overall need for English micro-lesson resources.Among them,their needs for skills are higher than those of the other three dimensions;(2)There is no significant difference in the need for English micro-lesson resources among students of different genders,grades,and English proficiencies.However,students of different majors,students of Literature & History have higher process need than students of Science & Engineering in English micro-lesson resources according to the survey.Based on the above analysis results,the author puts forward some pertinent Suggestions:(1)Different students have different needs for English micro-course resources,which requires the establishment of a high-level college English micro-course categorized and categorized to meet the learning needs of students of different majors.(2)To update and improve the system of micro-course resources according to the time,and fully demonstrate its continuity and succession;(3)Teach students in accordance with their aptitude.College English micro-course resources can provide a wide range of resources.Teachers and students can meet the needs of students at different levels according to their level.(4)Develop English micro-course resources with characteristics of the school,homogeneous schools,homogeneous majors and so on.As a newly emerging learning resource,English micro-lesson resources are in line with the modern learning trend.However,at present,English micro-lesson resources are uneven,and there is still a lack of reliable English micro-lesson resources platform for non-English major undergraduates.The related software and hardware facilities need to be improved,and the current English micro-lesson resources cannot meet the increasingly diverse learning needs of students.This study aims to analyze the needs of non-English major undergraduates for English micro-lesson resources,hoping to be informed of the individualized needs of teachers and students for English micro-lesson resources and provide a reference for the development of English micro-lesson resources and related platforms in the future.
