This thesis consists of three parts: the source text,the target text and the translation report of the first two chapters of the monograph Parental Involvement in Childhood Education: Building Effective School-Family Partnerships by Gary Hornby,professor of educational psychology in New Zealand.Based on a large number of local,national and international cases and the author's years of practical experience in education,this book illustrates the importance of parents' participation in children's education,barriers to parental involvement,and models,guidelines and skills of parents' participation from the perspectives of professional pedagogy and psychology,providing guidance for schools,teachers and educational psychologists and ways of facilitating effective parents' participation in children's education.This book belongs to the non-literary text,and the translator chose Chapter 1and Chapter 2 of it for translation.The translator took Catford's theory of translation shifts as the main theoretical guidance in the process of translation,aiming to analyze the applicability and feasibility of this theory in the study of non-literary texts.It is hoped that this thesis will be of some significance for those engaged in education research and that it can arouse more parents' attention to the issues of participation in children's education and establishment of effective family-school partnerships in China.The translation report of this thesis is divided into six parts.The first part is the introduction,including the background and significance of the research.The second part is the description of the translation project,including the introduction to the source text,the author and the language features of the source text.The third part is overview of thetranslation principle,in which Catford's theory of translation shifts and the current research situation at home and abroad are elaborated and summarized,and the applicability of this theory in non-literary texts is briefly analyzed.The fourth part describes the translation process,including preparations before translation,translation process and corrections after translation.The fifth part is case analysis where the translator demonstrates and illustrates level shifts,structure shifts,class shifts and unit shifts with examples selected from the source text.The sixth part is summary,including the enlightenment gained in the process of translation and the limitations of this thesis.
