Confusion of Civilization: the Way Out for Tibetan Education is a Chinese monograph of the education expert Baden Nima.This book mainly expounds the historical and cultural basis of Tibetan education and analyzes the way out for Tibetan education.The translation material is taken from Chapter Two,“the Historical Origin of Education”,and Chapter Three,“Philosophical Foundation of Tibetan Culture” in Confusion of Civilization: the Way Out for Tibetan Education,with a total of 14951 Chinese characters.Based on the profound analysis and study on the source text,the translator finds that the source text contains a large number of Tibetan transliteration,long sentences and non-subject sentences,which require the translator to focus on.According to the practical problems encountered during translation and the features of the source text,the translator adopts Catford's shifts theory to solve the problems.Guided by Catford's shifts theory,the report discusses how the Structure Shifts,Class Shifts,Unit Shifts and Intra-system Shifts theories guide translator to solve problems at the level of vocabulary,syntax and grammar,to make sure the smoothness,fluency,accuracy and faithfulness.
