As an unearthed document material,the epitaph has the characteristics of objectivity,authenticity and richness.At the same time,it also has the extremely high academic research value.The epitaphs of the Tang dynasty,as a representative of them,have been received the attention of scholars,so the relevant collation and research results have been enriched day by day.Because the epitaphs of the Tang dynasty have lasted for a long time,there are many problems such as damaged or illegible.Furthermore,influenced by the knowledge level and seriousness of the interpreters,there are often problems in the interpretation of the Tang Dynasty epitaphs.Therefore,it is essential to collate the annotations of the Tang Epitaphs.The article takes 95 Tang Dynasty epitaphs from the Recently Unearthed Sui and Tang Epitaphs in Chang'an Gaoyang Yuan as the research object.Each epitaph both has rubbings and annotations and the vast majority of them are published for the first time,which provides a batch of new materials for stone carving research.From the perspective of annotation,the text of epitaphs is more accurate,but it is inevitable that there are some problems such as misinterpretation or lack of interpretation with popular form of characters,misrecord or missing record and improper punctuaions.In order to improve annotations quality and interpret the epitaphs of the Tang dynasty more accurately,this paper will list examples to correct respectively.From the shape of characters,we can comprehensively and systematically collect and sort out the variant chinese characters about 90 Tang dynasty epitaphs,and complete into the chart on variant chinese characters about the Recently Unearthed Sui and Tang Epitaphs in Chang'an Gaoyang Yuan.This supplys a bctch of valuable materials for the inscription research.In terms of structure,the paper is divided into five parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the research object of this paper,the related researche results,research ideas and methods.The second chapter is the interpretation of the difficult characters,which includes misinterpretation or lack of interpretation with popular form of characters.The third chapter is the revision and supplement for the annotations,which is composed by three parts: correction of misinterpretation,the revision of missing record and rectification of improper punctuations.The fourth chapter is the significance of the collation,which is helpful to accurate interpretation of the Tang Dynasty epitaphs,revise and improve the The Great Chinese Dictionary and provide a batch of valuable materials for the research on Modern Chinese Characters.The final part is the appendix,which is the chart on variant chinese characters about the Tang epitaphs of the Recently Unearthed Sui and Tang Epitaphs in Chang'an Gaoyang Yuan.
