Virtue as an appropriate quality is mainly embodied in the three fields of morality, epistemics and aesthetics.Moral virtue is related to action.Epistemic virtue is related to belief and aesthetic virtue is related to emotion.Aesthetic virtue is a kind of aesthetic emotional quality, and it is the quality that the aesthetic subject should have when making an appropriate aesthetic judgment on the aesthetic object. It is the aesthetic cultivation of a person, which is objectively influenced by moral virtue and cognitive virtue.Plato's view of literature and art mainly deals with the relationship between aesthetic virtue and moral virtue and epistemic virtue. The phenomenon of "inspiration" and "madness" appearing in Plato's writings is the proper display of the poet's appreciation of virtue when he realizes the aesthetic object.Plato attributed this phenomenon to "the god of poetry" and believed that this is a real existence rather than a mysterious phenomenon.Plato believed that aesthetic virtue is neither born nor acquired education, but comes from the memory of God's gift and soul;Plato used moral values and epistemic as the standard to criticize the emotions such as pity and sentimentality inspired by the drama narrative plot and fictional emotions as "pity" and "sentimentality",and believed that the audience's emotional reflection hindered rational thinking;Plato pays attention to the aesthetic education of citizens, pays attention to the cultivation of citizens 'emotions, the cultivation of healthy aesthetics, and the cultivation of a sound personality. On the one hand,he emphasized that literature and art cultivate the virtues of citizens. On the other hand,in the face of the potential harm of fictional emotions in art,he also used moral values and epistemic values as a measure to try to eliminate this harm;Plato saw the role of fictional narrative in moral education, but he believes that fictional emotions in fictional art will bring bad habits. He believed that the reprehensible and humiliating behavior in reality can bring a sense of pleasure in fictional art.Because of this pleasure, the audience is tolerant of these behaviors. And this pleasure subtly affect the audience's behavior and cognition.Plato believed that these potential dangers are not helpful to the construction of the city-state;Plato put forward a higher demand for the aesthetic nature of literature and art from the perspective of citizens 'aesthetic virtue. He standardized literature and art with moral virtue and epistemic virtue, although to some extent it did not conform to the inherent aesthetic law of literature and art,at the same time,it also revealed that later generations should understand the positive function from the literature and art.
