A Study Of Pommel Horse Images In Tomb Frescoes Of The Northern Qi Dynasty

Horse,with its special cultural connotation and rich social functions in ancient China,is one of the most common animals in the daily life of the ancients.Therefore,the theme of pommel horse has become one of the important themes of ancient Chinese painting.From the rock paintings of primitive society,pommel horse images appeared in all dynasties.Tang Dynasty was the first peak of the development of pommel horse paintings,and famous horse painters such as Cao Ba and Han Gan emerged.So far,the earliest pommel horse scroll paintings can be seen in Tang Dynasty.Before Sui and Tang Dynasties,pommel horse images can only be seen from archaeological excavation materials.So how did pommel horse painting become an independent branch of painting in the Tang Dynasty? How about the development of pommel horse images before Sui and Tang Dynasties? The culture of Sui and Tang Dynasty was established on the basis of the culture of the Northern and SouthernDynasties.Mr.Chen Yinke once studied the origin of Sui and Tang culture from the perspective of system,believing that the Northern Qi Dynasty was one of the most important sources of Sui and Tang system,and the influence of the Northern Qi Dynasty on the murals of tombs was obvious.Through collecting and sorting out the pommel horse images in the murals of the tombs of the Northern Qi Dynasty,this paper classifies the images,and deeply analyses the image sources,style features and functions of the pommel horse images in the tombs in the light of the historical,cultural and political backgrounds of the corresponding periods,so as to show the features of the pommel horse paintings of the Northern Qi Dynasty and explore the inheritance of the pommel horse paintings of the Northern Qi Dynasty to the The development of pommel horse painting in Sui and Tang Dynasties and its influencing factors established the status of pommel horse image in the history of pommel horse painting in Northern Qi Dynasty.
