The main research object of this paper a the colored murals discovered in the eight mural tombs which was built during the Pingcheng Period, Northern Wei Dynasty.First, this paper reviews relevant archaeological studies and their achievement; second, concerning about the content of these tomb murals, it makes an overall introduction to these eight mural tombs; third, the paper divides these murals into three categories with twelve types according to their themes and content, and with the combination of data analysis and tomb space measurement, it studies on the decorating relation between the murals and the space to summarize the regional feature of murals during that time; forth, taking two groups of typical images for example, this paper manages to find the relationship between the images of these tomb murals of Pingcheng Period and those found in other tombs of Wei and Jin Dynasties in different areas; finally, this paper pays close attention to the grave model. Making a comparative analysis of tomb murals between the tomb of Pingcheng Period and those in other different areas such as the Northeast, Hexiarea, the South etc., this paper tries to sum up the geographic factors that make the distinguishment of tomb murals of Pingcheng Period, Northern Wei Dynasty from others, as well as the influence of Wei-Jin culture from different areas.
