A Study On The Aesthetic Experience Theory In Analytic Aesthetics

Aesthetic experience is the core concept in the research of Western aesthetics.Since the 1950 s,analytic aestheticians have published a large number of articles on the issue of aesthetic experience and conducted long-term debates.The aesthetic experience theory in analytic aesthetics is an important part for the understanding of the development of contemporary aesthetics.On the one hand,the understanding of aesthetic experience in analytic aesthetics is quite different from traditional aestheticians such as Kant,Schopenhauer and Dewey.On the other hand,there is a close relationship between the aesthetic experience theory in analytic aesthetics and the emerging aesthetic trends such as the aesthetics of everyday life.In addition,the study of the aesthetic experience theory in analytic aesthetics is also essential for a deep understanding of the development of analytic aesthetics.This dissertation is devoted to a systematic and in-depth research on the representative aesthetic experience theory in analytic aesthetics.Firstly,it examines the reasons why aestheticians re-explore the issue of aesthetic experience.New artistic experience brought by avant-garde art,and Wittgenstein's thinking on the concept of "family similarity",and the goal of clarifying the concept prompted analytic aestheticians to rethink this concept.Subsequently,the dissertation divides these representative viewpoints into three categories according to the relationship between the thinking of analytic aestheticians and traditional aesthetic experience theory.The first category is represented by Monroe C.Beardsley and Jerome Stolnitz,who represent the tendency to inherit and summarize traditional aesthetic experience theory.The second category is represented by George Dickey,Marshall Cohen,and Kingsley Price,who represent the tendency to completely negate the existing aesthetic experience theory.The third type is represented by Nelson Goodman,Noel Carroll,Gary Iseminger,Robert Stecker,Jerrold Levinson and so on.They not only criticized the traditional theory of aesthetic experience,but also proposed their own redefinition of aesthetic experience.Finally,combined with the development of contemporary aesthetics,this dissertation makes a brief analysis of the impact of the aesthetic experience theory in analytic aesthetics.
