| China has a long history and a well advanced wedding culture.From ancient times to the present,Chinese people attach great importance to ceremonies.This is particularly the case for weddings.Regardless of their social and economic background,Chinese families normally spend a lot of resources,in financial or other terms,on weddings.Poor people will not even hesitate to borrow money in order to afford a decent wedding,not only because of the love to children and the emphasis on traditional rules,but also for an important reason,i.e.the Chinese are very particular about the form of presentation.The wedding day will be attended by relatives and friends,and thus is a great opportunity to show off the glorious side of the family.A happy,lively and grand wedding ceremony can be the biggest pride for the family.Through literature research,this article starts with an introduction to the origin of weddings.Then,it discusses the traditional wedding culture,wedding customs and their development.In particular,this articles analyzes the corresponding arrangements of wedding ritual spaces,including the trends of the selection of location for wedding ceremonies from family’s own courtyard to the wedding theme hall.In addition,this research employs a field study approach,including on-the-spot investigation,on-the-spot measurement and statistical analysis.It examines the present situation and development of modern wedding architecture,via,inter alia,case study of representative space designs for wedding ceremonies.Based on a thorough analysis of a number of wedding venues and architecture in China and overseas,this article points out the room for improvement in existing wedding space design and proposes new ideas for its future development.Through multiple on-site investigations of ancient cities,and the review of related literature and ancient city planning programs,the author explores various aspects of wedding space design,including ratio,scale,materials,color,spatial atmosphere,spatial organization,and streamline design.Against the background of the ancient city of Guide in the east of Henan Province,a new wedding space design proposal is submitted,in order to better satisfy the functions and atmosphere of the wedding ceremony’s space use,and to harmonize with the city’s existing space development,beautify each other,and be mutually scenic.The new proposal is alsoexpected to better respond to the need of protection of traditional culture in the construction of Guide city,by combining the wedding registration and the wedding ceremony to encourage the new couples to focus on the true meaning of the wedding and marriage,instead of unnecessary and wasteful spending.This article is intended to bring some fresh ideas to the modern wedding space design with Chinese characteristics.The modern wedding building space embodying the wedding culture has been an underexplored subject.There is no specific research category of this type of building design.As a pioneer in this filed,the article calls for more efforts from architectural colleagues to be taken in the research of wedding ceremony space design. |
