A Study Of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry And Prose

The Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose refers to reflect the Dunhuang wedding ceremonies during the Tang and Five Dynasties in Dunhuang Buddhist Scripture Cave.According to its stylistic differences,it can be divided into Dunhuang wedding poems,Dunhuang mantras,Dunhuang wedding letters and others.Because the writers are mostly the people of the middle and lower classes in Dunhuang,and they are mostly used in Dunhuang folk wedding ceremonies,the works have distinct regional characteristics.Based on the content of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose and the copying of the manuscript,this article explores the types and creative characteristics of Dunhuang Wedding Poetry and Prose,and restores the original living situation of the manuscript in which the work is located from the perspective of manuscript,and further has a closer look at Dunhuang wedding customs.The full text is divided into four parts:The first part summarizes the connotation and characteristics of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose.First,I discuss the relationship between literature and ritual,and define ritual literature.Second,I discuss the connotation of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose.It is clear that Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose includes: firstly,literary works directly used in Dunhuang wedding ceremonies,including poetic works,narratives about wedding ceremonies in book ritual manuscripts and application documents such as intermarriage books and wedding ceremonies;the second is based on manuscripts,Literature used in Dunhuang wedding ceremonies,such as poems and essays copied from Dunhuang Manuscripts P.2633.In addition,it points out that Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose has distinct regional characteristics,is closely integrated with folk wedding rituals,and has general characteristics of patterning tendency.The second part discusses the content and characteristics of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose.According to the differences of styles,Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose is divided into four categories: Dunhuang wedding poems,Dunhuang mantras,Dunhuang wedding ceremonies and others.The content and characteristics of their works are classified and discussed.According to different occasions,Dunhuang wedding poems can be divided into three categories: blocking the door,saluting and making trouble in the room.According to the content of the mantras,Dunhuang mantras can be divided into four categories: praise for newlyweds,wishes for family prosperity,wishes for longevity,and wishes for couples’ emotions.According to the different content of the book rituals,Dunhuang wedding ceremonies can be divided into two types: narratives about wedding ceremonies and etiquette procedures,and letter templates such as intermarriage letters and wedding ceremonies.In addition,although Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose is a category of applied folk literature,it is highly artistic.Dunhuang wedding poems used the technique of Fu and Xing wildly,and the content was lively and had a strong humorous color.The structure of Dunhuang mantras,such as starting,paved,and knot,as well as a large number of parallels,allusions,and algae decorations,have the characteristics of parallel prose.The Dunhuang wedding ceremonies have a strict format,a combination of elegant and popular language,and more narrative and explanatory texts,which have the characteristics of model essays.The third part discusses the manuscript carrier of Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose and restores the original marriage ritual situation of the manuscript.Taking Dunhuang wedding ceremony manuscripts P.2633,P.3350,and P.3909 as examples,from the perspective of manuscripts,we analyze the copying situation of the manuscript and copy the contents of the same volume to further explore the original marriage ceremony situation in the manuscript.Synthesizing the content copied on the front and back of the manuscript,it can be seen that the content characteristics of the same volume of the Dunhuang wedding ceremony manuscript are the reflection of the complexity and diversity of the Dunhuang folk wedding ceremony.P.2633 is a wedding transcript collected by the folk master of ceremonies,which eventually developed into a literary reading.P.3350 is the wedding ceremony song,which reflects the “welcome”part of the wedding.P.3909 is a copy of Dunhuang folk wedding applications,used in wedding ceremonies,and is a practical wedding greeting manual.The fourth part,mutual proof of pictures and texts,discusses Dunhuang wedding customs.According to the wedding ritual procedures and customs reflected in the Dunhuang Wedding Ceremony Poetry and Prose and the Dunhuang frescoes,it can be known that the Dunhuang wedding custom has followed the traditional six rituals,but has changed,and has the characteristics of the wedding customs of ethnic minorities.The Dunhuang marriage customs contained in the two are basically the same and have a mutual corroborative relationship.
