Books are the media carrying culture and transmitting information,and have made indelible contributions to the inheritance of culture and civilization since ancient times.In the internet era,readers are no longer simply reading the contents of books,but also putting forward higher requirements for the art of book binding and design.As an important part of book design,book cover plays a supporting and protecting role for books,is a means of continuation of book content and author's emotion,and is also the first impression that books show to readers.Therefore,the scientificity and artistry of book cover design are particularly important.According to the significance,origin and development of the study of book cover design,the traditional aesthetic characteristics of Chinese book covers and the development law of modern design art,combining with the book cover creativity in the excellent book design works of China in the internet century,this paper summarizes the process,creativity and aesthetic characteristics of book cover design in the new century,on the background of the internet information spreaded in high speed,reflects on the shortcomings and reasons in the current book cover design,and puts forward his own opinions on how to construct a harmonious unity between book cover design and books in the new century.Through rethinking the design of modern book covers,the development direction of theoretical research and practical technology of book cover design in the internet century is explored.
