This dissertation makes an analysis of the marginal man's ethical choice in three novels——An Artist of the Floating World,When we were orphans and Never let me go,written by Kazuo Ishiguro,a contemporary English-Japanese writer.Armed with literary ethical criticism as its major criticism approach and integrated with social-historical,close reading approaches.This dissertation attempts a systematic exploration on the ethical choices of "marginal man" image series by the logical structure form ethical identity to ethical dilemmas and ethical choice.In addition,I try to explore the cause and the meaning of Kazuo Ishiguro's "marginal man" shaping by sorting his ethical ideas,and find practical significance and value by caring "marginal man".This dissertation consists of three chapters besides Introduction and Conclusion.The Introduction makes a summary of the domestic and overseas research on Kazuo Ishiguro's novels.According to the relevant data,it carried on the classification of his major works and select the three novels in three stages as the research object.By reviewing,putting forward the research question and original ideas.The first chapter is entitled "self-confusion of the 'marginal' man" From the perspective of ethical identity,under analyzing three types of "marginal man"characteristics——orphans,strangers and human cloning,and explores the dislocation in its identity which caused the confusion and deviation of their self-awareness.The title of second chapter is "the ethical choice of the 'marginal people'".On the basis of the first chapter,studying protagonist's ethical and emotional dilemmas,including life's light and heavy,love and responsibility,the ethical dilemma of male and female ethics,and then themselves and others instructing is completed.Finally,it makes the human factor controlled the beast factor,which is the triumph of human reason..The third chapter is entitled "the ethical context in novels",from the modern and traditional,fantasy and reality,the once and future three sets of ethical context,in which two different worlds to explore ethical marginal space,has a profound symbolic meaning.The last part of the dissertation draws a conclusion and offer further exploration to some questions relevant to Kazuo Ishiguro's creation motive.The title of conclusion is "Ethical motivations on novel creation",which is divided into four parts.Firstly,from the perspective of ethnic identity,exploring its impact of the internationalization tendency in his creation.Secondly,the analysis of the impact of the British literature humanism and realism tradition in Kazuo Ishiguro's creation.Thirdly,Kazuo Ishiguro's humanitarian ethics have a significant effect on the shaping of "marginal man".Lastly,founding the significance of "marginal man" ethical choice.The "marginal man"research relevant to love and responsibility,and the healthy growth of children,deal with the relationship between humans and science are of great significance and value,which makes the whole world humanitarian care possible,by focusing on neglected marginalized groups,and deep thinking human condition.
