The Peking Opera script "The Red Bridge" tells the story that the scholar Yu Rang tried to kill Zhao Wuxu several times in order to take revenge for his former lord, and finally committed suicide for his loyalty. But this play emphasizes on showing Yu Rang's psychological struggle and contradictions during the process of several times of murdering Zhao instead of highlighting his spirit of loyalty and righteousness. This story occurred in the late Spring and Autumn Period.Zhao Wuxu defeated and killed Lord Zhi by making alliance with Lord Han and Wei.Yu Rang concealed his identity twice to murder Zhao for revenge, which both ended in failure.Henceforth,he lived in seclusion with his wife and son, during which he disguised himself as a beggar to wash out his murderous look. Therefore he lost in identity risk between scholar and beggar. He began to quest the rationality of revenge and finally suffered from schizophrenia.Later Jie She,Yu Rang's friend found his situation by accidently visiting his family.Jie She went to see Zhao and asked him to save Yu Rang by passing from the red bridge. He hoped Yu Rang could complete the mission of revenge and got saved from his demons. As planned,Yu Rang was captured and request Zhao to take off his robe in order to cut instead of Zhao's body. Finally Yu Rang suicide. The interpretation of creation elucidates the author's creation from the aspects of the creation of the topic, the main character analysis, the modern creation of the Peking Opera and creative gains and losses. And it also sums up the author's harvest and feelings in the creative process, focusing on the analysis of the psychological struggle and behavior choice of the main characters in the traditional moral framework,as well as the difference between the modern opera creation and the traditional opera.
