The Red And Green Metaphor Of Moral Concepts And Its Influence On Moral Judgment

In our lives,The application of metaphor can be seen everywhere.It not only exists in our language system,but also affects our thinking and cognition.The essence of metaphor is that people understand the unfamiliar and abstract concepts with the help of the existing and familiar concepts in our conceptual system.The moral concept is an abstract concept,it is invisible,So we can take advantage of the tangible concept to cognize it,in order to deepen the understanding.The application of color in our usual life can be seen everywhere.And the color is endowed with a certain psychological meaning.Therefore,this study is based on the theory of embodied cognition,conceptual metaphor and moral judgment,Organize the related empirical study of conceptual metaphors,It also analyzes the existing problems and divergence in the research of conceptual metaphor,especially the color metaphor of moral concepts,On this basis,we propose this empirical study.In this study,3 experiments were conducted to explore the positive and negative emotion metaphors of red and green color,the red and green metaphor of moral concepts,and the influence of red and green color on moral judgment.Experiment 1 explored the emotional meaning of red and Green Color Metaphors in Chinese culture through the Stroop effect experiment.In Experiment 2,we explore in the field of morality,whether there is a red and green color metaphor of moral concept.In Experiment 3,we based on the existence of the of the red and green metaphor of moral concepts,we further investigate whether the red and green color metaphor impact on more complex behavior of moral judgment.Through the above three experiments,we get the following results:First,the concept of red and green color and the concept of positive and negative emotions have metaphorical connection,in other words,people use the specific concept of red and green color to understand the abstract concept of emotion.Green and positive concepts have metaphor connection,red and negative concepts has metaphor connection.Second,in the psychological level,there are red and green metaphors of moral concepts.The concept of red and green color and the concept of morality are connected by metaphor,that is to say,the green and the moral concepts have metaphor connection,red havemetaphor connectiong with immoral.The red and green color will influence the processing of individual moral concept,in the red background,individual responses to immoral words faster,in the green background of the individual moral times faster.Third,the red and green metaphor of moral concept will influence the individual's moral judgment:The influence of the green background on the individual's moral judgment is consistent with the direction of the green metaphor,that is,the individual's moral judgment will move towards the direction of the more moral.The influence of the red background on the individual's moral judgment is consistent with the direction of the red metaphor,that is,the individual's moral judgment will be shifted to the more immoral.
