The Study On Guy Debord's Critical Theory Of Spectacle Fetishism And Its Epoch Value

Spectacle is a concept which presents the false image that separated with the reality existence which put forward by Guy Debord,a contemporary French thinker and artist,and it aims to criticize the phenomena like the deepening of dissimilation consumption,the flooding of media image flood,which cause the gradual dilution of people's life in developed capitalist society.Dedord brought new ideas into Marx's critical theory of commodity fetishism and put forward the concept of spectacle fetishism,for the intention of illustrating that capitalist society had transformed from manufacturing society to consuming society,and contemplation owns an outstanding position with the commodity becoming spectacle,consequently people begin to worship the spectacle instead of the commodity.With the help of mass media,not only the spectacle produces ubiquitous separation,but also it colonizes every details of people's daily life and manages to make people lose their subjectivity,and eventually man becomes the dependency of spectacle.For the purpose of overthrow the spectacle society and realizing the return man's subject consciousness and value,Debord came up with a practice method of culture revolution and daily life revolution and he put forward three practice strategies,drift,detournement and structure,to help people eventually break the prison of life which built by spectacle and construct their living space according to the real demand and free will.Debord's theory has obvious characteristics of humanism,and contains the postmodernism orientation.Besides that,due to the influence of avant-garde art,his theory also has the feature of surrealism and utopia.Despite the disbandment of Situationist International and the death of Debord,his theory still has the research value in today's era.In theoretical aspect,it can help recognizing and understanding Marx's critical theory of commodity fetishism,as well as review and critique the current consumer society and modern media;In practical aspect,it can provide reference for China's socialist modernization,alert us to keep people's subjectivity in the development of economy at the same time,and simultaneously to care about the confusion of spectacle and the trap of consumption alienation.
