As one of the famous dramatists in the history of modern Chinese literature,Cao Yu created many classical dramas,such as Thunderstorm,Sunrise,Champaign,Peking man,and so on.Among the dramas of Cao Yu,the understanding and acceptance of Champaign is pretty distinctive,which is full of difficulties and setbacks.Since 1937,when Champaign came into being,until 1970s,comments on Champaign were mainly negative criticism.However,after more than forty years’silence and depression,since Eighties,Champaign ushered in a great number of favorable comments.Looking back at the classicization of Champaign,which includes two different periods,many questions can be discovered.The wide differences between the two periods’ comments on Champaign reflect not only the richness of content and the equivocality of theme of Champaign as a literary classic,but also changes of literary concepts of the society.As for the changes of literary concepts,it’s the comprehensive effects of many kinds of factors,which reflect great changes of the times.The thesis investigate the classicization of Champaign,through which to explore the literary classics and their meaning,study the influences of social thoughts,especially social literary concepts on classicization,research the relationship between explanation of classics and historical cultural context.What’s more,consider some important questions about changes of the times and the society.
