Research On Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group (From 1938 To 1941)

Since the outbreak of the full-scale Anti-Japanese War,Guangzhou and its vicinity had suffered a great deal of trauma.Red Cross Society which viewed war rescue as bounden duty played a prominent role in saving wounded and refugees.As a representative branch of Chinese Red Cross Society,Guangzhou Red Cross Society did effectual rescue.At the same time,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group which was in name of “Red Cross” came into being along the war.Depended on limited talented and fund,it began the war rescue.It mainly carried out medical aid and public health construction.In medical aid,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group set up disabled hospital,provincial temporary hospital,clinics and operated flow treatment.In public health,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group created a few public health institutions for health care such as maternity-child health.Besides,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group served in Liannan minority regions.Because Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group and Guangdong Health Office were alike in work mechanism,so we can regard Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group as quasi-sovereign medical and health organization.And Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group was not established as a branch of Chinese Red Cross Society.Its work was not fairly linked with Red Cross Society.Even so it manifested the humanitarian spirit.So we can regard Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group as non-Red Cross-system humanitarian charity.During the short war rescue,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group saved quite a number of wounded and refugees,strengthened the public health construction in Guangdong,and promoted a harmonious national relation.It had made undeniable contributions.In spite of all of these,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group went through many hardships.On the one hand,the group’s expenditure mainly depended on donations in all directions so it used up easily.On the other hand,though Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group did various services,it also looked like a scattered organization.Based on above,mobile work in large areas must lead to internal friction.Once the war was over,Guangzhou International Red Cross Society Service Group would be dessolved soon after.
