As a distinctive form of local theatrical performance,Xiaoyi shadow puppetry is artistic crystallization of People's practice in their daily life.It blooms in China with its superb carving,lively performance,intense sound cavity and rich traditional repertoire.Now Xiaoyi shadow puppetry has been listed in the first National intangible cultural heritage list by the State Council as it is a kind of precious folk art.It is significant to protect this kind of cultural heritage for carrying forward the national culture and establishing harmonious society.This article conducted a detailed investigation of the development,changes and current status of Xiaoyi shadow puppetry through literature analysis,meticulous fieldwork and comparison of historical processes.It discussed function feature changes of Xiaoyi shadow puppetry in politics,economic and culture.It put forward a range of issues faced by the development and inheritance of Xiaoyi shadow puppetry such as dissolution of the inherited field,operation of fund,manage mechanism,innovation of content,quality of artist,inheritance of skills and lack of effective policies.In the process of problem analysis,some advices including improving the development path and inheritance mode,updating the performance form,innovating shadow track,enhancing the quality of artist,perfecting the protection mechanism,building a complete advertising platform,achieving the integrated development of Xiaoyi shadow puppetry culture and tourism industry has been proposed which is significantly helpful to inherit this folk treasure better and make a virtuous development environment in social changes.
