By observing the homework of Thai students during the primary level of Chinese learning,we found out that many punctuation bias occurred in their writings, such as the writing bias of punctuation, position errors of punctuation and mistake function of punctuation.Based on the data collected from the Thai students from my teaching period in the Thailand and the current research about the using situation of Chinese punctuation of foreign students, this paper made the descriptions of types and characteristics of the bias that the Thai students had made in using punctuation. The author analyzed the punctuation bias that Thai students had made and summarized specific types of them by the ways of collecting their linguistic materials, issuing questionnaires, and consulting related information.Through the comparison of the punctuation marks between the Thai and the Chinese symbol systems and the analysis of the questionnaires from teachers and students,we found out the reasons for these errors: neither did the teachers nor the students realize the importance of punctuation, without a full understanding of the language of the students, the impact from negative transfer of their mother tongue, the wrong demonstration of the teachers, the student's tentative guess as well as the purpose and attitude of their learning. Finally, this paper put forward some relevant teaching suggestions:teachers should make normative demonstration, improve their teaching methods, clarify the importance of punctuation, adjust the teaching orders of punctuation, make clear the periodical teaching rules of punctuation and add related questions about the use of punctuation marks into examinations.
