An Interpreting Report On Business Negotiations From The Perspective Of Schema Theory

This paper is a practice report of business interpretation.The described task of interpreting is that the interpreter once participated in the Fifth China’s Science and Technology City International High-tech Expo on September 8th,2017 –B2B Matchmaking for Sino-Israel High-tech Industries.And the interpreter selects the business negotiation between Michael Reznik,CEO of Metanoia Company of Israel and China’s small and medium-sized enterprises as case study.In recent years,schema theory has been used frequently in the field of English education and foreign language teaching.However,the application of schema theory in business interpreting is rare.Schema is an extremely complex and well-organized information network stored in the human brain.It is the basis for people to understand the world around them.When people understand,absorb,and input new information,they need to associate the input information with the known information,decode the information,and finally output it accurately.The known information is the schema stored in the mind.Nowadays,with the development and application of business interpreting;the schema theory has drawn more and more attention in interpreting studies with its scientific analysis of people’s cognition.This paper,from the perspective of the interpreter,based on three types of schema theory,namely linguistic schema,content schema and formal schema,will discuss difficulties during the process of interpreting,including linguistic problems such as lack of professional vocabulary,queer accent,English and Chinese syntactic structure differences,and extra linguistic problems such as lack of background knowledge,cultural differences,logical confusion,and also summarize the relevant coping strategies.The interpreter firstly looks back to the development of schema theory and introduces schema definitions and classifications.And the interpreter,guided by linguistic schema,content schema and formal schema,tackles the difficulties and key points in this interpreting practice through pre-interpreting preparation,case analysis of interpreting process and post-interpreting summery.In the final analysis,the study shows that the interpreter should store more linguistic schema,content schema and formal schema in her brain in order to have a better interpreting performance.And the interpreter hopes to provide some references and guidance for the future interpreting learners through summarizing her personal experience,coping strategies as well as the limitations and suggestions for future research.
