In recent years,many universities have set up the major of Business English(BE)to meet the needs of the society and students.Judging from the teaching practice,there are still many deficiencies in current BE teaching,such as the unreasonable course arrangement and outdated teaching materials.In view of this situation,the author took major universities in Sichuan-Chongqing region as examples.Combined with the demand of the society and the needs of students' individual development,this study explored the advancement of BE teaching from the perspective of microscopic ecological balance of education,aiming to provide a reference for further studies on BE teaching.The literature review towards the interpretation of The National Criteria of Teaching Quality for Undergraduate Business English Majors(the newest version),studies on BE teaching,studies on educational ecology and its application in English teaching demonstrates that on the one hand,although many scholars have mentioned the importance of dynamic demand analysis on BE teaching and they have found some problems in current BE teaching process,current studies on BE teaching are still limited in theoretical analysis,lacking of the investigation towards the external environment;On the other hand,educational ecology regards the educational system as a whole,and it studies the relationship between education and its environment,which is a novel perspective of studies on BE teaching.Therefore,in order to meet the demand of the society and the needs of students' individual development,this study designed a semi-structured interview for employers to find the demand of the market,along with a survey and the other semi-structured interview for students to find the current situation of BE teaching and students' needs towards BE study.In the end,combined with the requirements of The National Criteria of Teaching Quality for Undergraduate Business English Majors,this study explored the gap among the needs of students,the demand of the society and the current state of BE teaching.This study found that firstly,companies need talents who are proficient in both English and business and can adapt to the work environment quickly.However,current BE graduates fail to meet the requirements of companies.Secondly,students call for an in-depth study on English and business,as well as the accumulation for practical experience.Nevertheless,the current BE teaching cannot meet the requirements of students.In accordance with the findings,suggestions for promoting the ecological development of BE teaching are proposed as follows: 1)Educational department should subdivide the classification of teaching materials and renew the content and structure of materials timely.2)Universities should specify the directions for BE courses and modify the structure of course arrangement.3)Teachers should adopt diversified instructional strategies and English-based teaching mode.4)Schools should modify their teaching program timely by communicating with students and the society.
