A Translation Analysis Of A Consulting Report From The Perspective Of Adaptation Theory

With the gradual development of Chinese higher education,people pay more attention to education quality nowadays.How to build a scientific assessment system to review the quality of higher education has become a heated topic.From teacher selection,curriculum setting to quality assessment,the UK has a set of mature systems.Therefore,the translation analysis of Britain's higher education quality assurance report not only can discuss the translation theory and techniques,but also has certain reference significance for the quality assessment of higher education in China.The translation material of this paper was excerpted from the consultation of approaches to quality assessment of higher education in Britain.During the translation,the author found that this official style report is characterized by the clear and accurate,rigorous and brief,standardized and normalized language.Meanwhile,the report also has many long and complicated sentences.Thus,the translation text was constantly revised and improved to conform to the characteristics of official style.The process of revision is also the process of language selection.The author flexibly adjusted the structures and expressions of the translation text in order to conform to the original stylistic features,the Chinese expression habits and the readers' requirements.The author also made an effort to adapt to the mental,social and physical world of adaptation theory to achieve good communicative effect and finally produce better translation in dynamic adjustment.Finally,through these cases analyses,this paper concluded that it was necessary to accord with the communicative context of the article,and also comply with the language structure and stylistic features of the article in translation.The adaptation theory can guide the translation of the official style,but a translator should try to take different adaptation factors into consideration as much as possible.
