This is a translation report for The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop, which is a children’s book written by English writer Kate Saunders. The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop is a story about twins Oz and Lily who overcome difficulties, fight against evil gangs and finally protect the secret chocolate recipe. The novel is a fascinating story with vivid language and optimistic theme, and it has won many prizes in America. By translating The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop and doing related analysis, the writer discusses the guiding significance of adaptation theory in children’s literature. This report chooses many examples from the translation to discuss the application of adaptation theory at phonetic, lexical, syntactic and text level. Under the guidance of adaptation theory, the writer tries to translate the novel from children’s perspective to meet children’s reading needs of foreign literature. In phonetic level, the translator can use interjections, onomatopoetic words and r-pronounced words to meet children readers’ requirements. It not only presents the sound features of the original, but also makes the language vivid. Thus the rhythm of children’s literature can be satisfied. In lexical level, the words which translator chooses are related to the expression of the image, so children readers can think of the specific images through the words. The translator should focus on the understanding of children readers. The reduplicated words and degree adverbs are easily accepted by children. In syntactic level, the translator should consider the characteristic of children readers. The short and simple sentences can be used to make the translation brief. Sometimes it is necessary for the translator to arrange and integrate sentences, therefore the translation is clear. Dialogue is a major feature of the text. The translator should notice the dialogue between different characters so that the language is in line with the context. Anyway, the translator should choose proper translation methods to present great works that children like.
