Research On Chen Shizeng's Seal Style Preferences

Chen Shizeng was one of the leading figures in the northern seal cutting in the early years of the republic of China.His artistic creation covered a wide range of fields,such as Chinese paintings,calligraphy and seal cutting.He achieved the highest achievement in Chinese painting.Chen Shizeng's artistic level of seal cutting is recognized by the republic of China's artists,and his artistic attainments are outstanding in the republic of China,which is era to numerous masters.In the art of seal cutting aesthetic,Chen Shizeng had unique vision beyond the times,In the early days of the northern seal style and freehand seal style,Chen shizeng can be called as iconic figure.However,due to a variety of reasons,Chen Shizeng's attention in the mass has gradually declined,and his seal cutting art has not received enough attention and research in the contemporary era.In the history of modern art,Chen Shizeng was often praised for his contribution in excavating and introducing Qi Baishi to the world.This act of Chen Shizeng can be called the navigator formed by the freehand style of Qi school in the north.If Qi Baishi is the symbol of the northern seal style,then Chen Shizeng's seal thought is one of the original theoretical core of the northern seal style,and Chen Shizeng's tendency of extreme " square worship" in his "view of a square" is one of the essential elements of the Qi school of seal style,as well as the northern seal style and freehand seal style.The research direction of this paper is to choose the " square or circle preferences" in Chen Shizeng's thought of seal cutting,which not only enriches the academic research on Chen Shizeng's seal cutting art,but also traces the most profound and extensive freehand seal style's source in northern China,in the field of contemporary seal to some extent.Therefore,the research on Chen Shizeng's "square or circle preferences " not only involves himself,but also can clarify the direction of the contemporary northern seal style and freehand seal style.
