Artistic Feature And Contemporary Enlightenment Of Chen Shizeng's Seal Cutting

Chen Shizeng has an important influence in the art history of the Republic of China.His poetry,calligraphy,painting and seal are called "the four unique skills" and have great achievements,especially the remarkable painting and seal cutting.Chen's seals collection book "Seals of Rancang Hall" was widely circulated while his "Elementary Introduction of Huaitang Making Replica of Seals" had profound influence in the theoretical side of seal cutting art.Chen's art communication activities had a great influence on the art circles at that time and later,and his artistic practice and art theory laid him a solid position in the modern history of Chinese art.Chen's seal cutting achievement,which is often neglected,is equivalent to his painting achievement.Taking Chen's seal cutting art as the research object,his art characteristics and the cause of formation are analyzed.It is concluded that Chen's seal cutting is a great paragon of the Qin and Han Dynasties.Wu Changshuo,Qi Baishi and a group of masters absorbed the vigorous,unsophisticated,vast and lofty charms from the seals of the Qin and Han Dynasties,and finally formed their own unique features.For the current phenomenon of advocating new trends and ignoring the traditional skill,Chen's seal cutting art and knowledge will undoubtedly have great significance and inspiration to contemporary seal engravers.
