The religious activities are frequent among Shaoxing folks,and those sacrificial rituals usually require the performances of religious dramas such as Mulian Opera.This article first traces to the source of Shaoxing Mulian opera and sorts out its performance in history.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the performances of the Mulian opera in Shaoxing area were prosperous,and gradually decreased after a long period of time in the 1950 s.In recent years,Shaoxing Mulian opera has a second spring thanks to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Mechanism.In the process of exploring the actual development situation,the author finds that in the regional cultural environment of Shaoxing,performance customs and folk beliefs play an important role in the survival of such operas.On the basis of the field investigation,the author conducts indepth research on the inheritance relationship and inheritance repertoire in the Shaoxing Mulian Opera Performance Troupe combined with the literature and performance records.In addition,the author analyzes the performance of the excerpts in Shaoxing Mulian Opera and the situation of rehearsal about <Mulian Saves his Mother from the hell>,which is specific to the Xinchang Diaoqiang Opera Troupe,the Zhejiang Shao Opera Troupe,the inheritors of Shangyu Dumb Mulian,Qunle Farmers' Art Troupe in Mashan County and other Shaoxing Mulian Opera inheritance subjects.On this basis,by analyzing the different problems of professional troupes and folk troupes in the process of inheritance and proposing solutions,we can better protect and develop Shaoxing Mulian Opera.
