The Influence Of Emotional Words On Emotional Face Recognition

Emotional face is an external expression of an individual's internal emotional state.Accurate and efficient emotional face recognition is not only conducive to the establishment of good interpersonal relationships,but also of great significance to human survival and reproduction.As for the processing mechanism of emotional face recognition,the traditional basic emotion theory believes that individuals can recognize emotional faces only by relying on the physical clues of faces.The constructive emotion theory puts forward different views on this issue.It holds that emotional face recognition is influenced by background and other factors,and emphasizing that language is a special emotional background plays an important constructive role in face recognition.Studies have confirmed that emotion words affect emotional face recognition,which supports the constructive emotion theory.However,some studies have found that emotional face recognition is an automatic process,and emotional words are independent of the recognition of emotional faces.Therefore,in experiment 1,adopting saturated and start-up paradigms,Chinese subjects are selected to explore how the acquisition of emotion word meaning(emotion word meaning is acquired,while emotion word meaning cannot be acquired temporarily)affects the recognition of emotional face.In addition,some studies have found that different degrees of word processing(deep processing,shallow processing)affect the amount of meaning acquisition of words.At present,a large number of studies have confirmed that emotion words affect the recognition of emotional faces.However,these studies only focus on the meaning acquisition of emotion words,and do not explore the influence of emotion words on the recognition of emotional faces from the perspective of the amount of the meaning acquisition of emotion words.Therefore,experiment 2 adopts the word task judgment method to explore the influence of emotion words with different processing depths on emotional face recognition.This study involves a preliminary experiment and two formal experiments.The preliminary experiment is designed to screen word material and typical emotional faces in preparation for the formal experiment.In formal experiment1,a mixedexperimental design was adopted to explore how the acquisition of the meaning of emotion words affects the recognition of emotional faces through the saturation operation and start-up operation of emotion words.In experiment 2,adopting the in-test design,the influence of the amount of emotional word meaning is acquired on emotional face recognition is explored through the judgment of true and false words(shallow processing)and valence judgment(deep processing)on words.The results show that: in the Chinese cultural background,emotion words affect the recognition of emotional faces.Compared with the saturation condition,under the start-up condition,the reaction time of the subjects in recognizing emotional faces is shorter and the accuracy rate is higher.Emotion words with different processing depth have different effects on emotion face recognition.Compared with emotion words with shallow processing,under the condition of emotion words with deep processing,the reaction time of the subjects in recognizing emotional faces is shorter and the accuracy rate is higher.Conclusion: emotion words affect emotion face recognition and play an important construction role in emotional face recognition.
