A Report On Guide Interpreting At Bingling Grottoes

With the spread of the "Belt and Road" initiative,the mystery and abundant resources in northwest China attracts tourists from home and abroad.On the strategic Silk Road,Gansu has numerous tourist attractions related to the Silk Road.Among these attractions,Bingling Grottoes in Liu Jiaxia are renowned on the route from Lanzhou City to Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.Furthermore,the profession of guide interpretation is built on the cultural differences in communication,seeking to communicate fluently and clearly between guides and tourists.The author of this report is a tour guide interpreter who provided an interpretation service for a tourist from Canada.This report is based on the guide interpretation practice at the historical site of Bingling Grottoes which combines the author’s practice in Bingling Grottoes with the Skopos theory.The report can be divided into five parts.The first part provides clarification on the task background as well as the task purpose.In the second part,the introduction and requirements from the entrusting party are mainly described.The third part describes and analyses interpretation processes in the pre-interpretation,while-interpretation and post-interpretation.The pre-interpretation includes preparation for background information and the introduction of interpretation theory,strategies and plans which provides the theoretical foundation for the report.The while-interpretation contains the quality control and the process description.The post-interpretation is evaluation from the author,the peer,the client and the entrusting party.The fourth part is the case analysis.Some specific examples in the interpretation practice would be given according to the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and fidelity rule combine with interpretation strategies as explanation,paraphrase,generalization,substitution,amplification and omission to carry out this task.In the concluding part is a summary.By making comparisons in intercommunication between the tour guide-interpreter and the foreign tourists,six interpretation strategies were used in overcoming intercultural communicative barriers or obstacles in tour guide interpretation and achieved the goal of explanation and communication.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory,different tourists and their different cultural backgrounds are required to seek different translation purposes.Therefore this report is an example for whom was interested in guide-interpretation at Bingling Grottoes.
